Pacific Beach Community Pavilion
2017
The center of college nightlife and beach cruising, Garnet Avenue of Pacific Beach is the quintessential beach town commercial street. Although the beach culture informs the street’s character, beach to bay destination traffic diminishes the feeling of “community.” Wade is a community space that consists of a produce store, community gardens, and a community center. It aims to bridge the gap between the tourists’ and locals’ understanding of Pacific Beach through communication, collaboration, and creativity. The community center not only provides career opportunities for residents, the homeless, and migrants but also creates revenue streams for community improvement and maintenance projects. Wade highlights Pacific Beach’s hidden potential of community building.
